Jamaican citizenship and passport applications

Help with citizenship by descent and marriage, naturalisation, and passport applications that have run into problems.

Proving your right to Jamaican citizenship, or getting a passport when your documents do not line up, can be frustrating, especially from overseas. We help Jamaicans at home and abroad, and their children and spouses, put the right application together the first time.

Citizenship and passport applications are decided by the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA). Our role is to advise you on eligibility, gather and prepare the supporting documents and sworn statements, and deal with problems before they cause a refusal or delay.

Jamaican citizenship

  • Citizenship by descent: confirming citizenship for people born outside Jamaica to a Jamaican parent
  • Citizenship by marriage: registration for spouses of Jamaican citizens
  • Naturalisation: for long-term residents who meet the requirements
  • Dual citizenship: Jamaica permits its citizens to hold another citizenship, and we advise on how Jamaican citizenship interacts with your other nationality

Read our guide: Jamaican citizenship by descent.

Jamaican passports

We assist with first-time, renewal and replacement passport applications, particularly where there is a complication, such as:

  • Names that differ between the birth certificate, marriage certificate and other documents
  • Late or missing birth registration, and corrections at the Registrar General's Department
  • Applications for children where a parent is absent or unwilling to consent
  • Lost or stolen passports

Supporting documents

Many applications need sworn statements, statutory declarations, deed polls for a change of name, or certified copies of documents. We prepare these correctly and, for clients abroad, explain how to have them signed and certified where you live.

Questions clients ask

Can I get Jamaican citizenship through my parent?

If you were born outside Jamaica and one of your parents is a Jamaican citizen, you may be a citizen by descent. You apply to PICA to confirm your citizenship, supported by birth records linking you to your Jamaican parent.

Can I hold Jamaican and US, UK or Canadian citizenship at the same time?

Jamaica allows dual citizenship. Whether your other country also allows it depends on that country's rules, which you should check.

My name is different on my documents. Can I still get a passport?

Usually yes, but you will need to explain and evidence the difference, for example with a marriage certificate, deed poll or statutory declaration. We prepare the documents PICA needs.
